The plan for this project is to develop a Bahasa version of
PEOI. To accomplish this, a very minimum of 6 committed individuals
are necessary to form a Bahasa translation team. In that team
there are several distinct responsibilities:
- one coordinator and tasks supervisor who must be an excellent
communicator and be available every day of the week an
average of one hour; he/she must have an excellent understanding
of how individual tasks can be accomplished and how the entire
project can be completed;
- one webmaster who need not create the web site as the entire
English set of pages will be transferred to the Bahasa web site,
but he/she must be knowledgeable about how to upload files, handle
Linux folders, verify HTML and use CGI; he/she must distribute
work to translators for text files that are accessible through
PEOI procedures; his work load is about 5-10 hours per week with
minimum of 3 hours in any given week;
- one or two translators of general text, who will receive the
text from the webmaster and return to same; the workload
and schedule are flexible; probably 10 hours per week would be
optimum;
- four or five translators of economics, accounting and finance
courses, who can work directly with PEOI procedures
with the webmaster uploading completed work to permanent folders;
workload is entirely flexible; also optimum of 10
hours per week.
Aside from translation of courses, there is usually a large volume of general information that PEOI needs to have translated. A new procedure is now tested by the Bahasa Indonesia team for editing this general text procedure. In addition, there are automated email messages and procedures files that can be translated, edited and corrected with a special procedure.
All the work can be performed at home on one's own computer. Additional
explanations of the work to be performed
can be found in volunteer assignment for translator and in "Authors"
section.
PEOI's procedures are accessible after registration and log in at PEOI
by selecting the procedure needed in the Procedure pull down menu
which is present at the top center of all PEOI's platform screens
shown below:
Then, the "Edit HTML text #4/2" and "Edit question #4/4" procedures give access to all course material in all languages. Note that translators must log in each time before using the Edit procedures.
Once in the "Edit HTML text" procedure, the content of a chapter appears in TEXTAREA where the translation is to be entered avoiding as much as possible disturbing the HTML tags present in the TEXTAREA. Below the TEXTAREA, the same text is shown as it will appear to students. After completing all corrections in the TEXTAREA, the button "Save" must be clicked to save the text in a temporary directory. After an entire chapter is finished, the translator is expected to notify PEOI by email that the chapter is finished and can be moved to its regular directory. The "Notify that work completed" button can be used for that purpose.
All tasks can be carried out from home on your own computer and at your own time. Volunteers can join in forum discussions of issues of common interest. Registration is necessary to participate in a forum. Volunteer tranlators should register as translators, and make sure to join the Bahasa translation team. Other volunteers are invited to register as volunteer staff members. For more details, pease write a short message indicating the volunteer opportunity you are interested in, attach a recent resume, and send to John Petroff listed in contact information.
To see the registered translators of the Bahasa team, use the Authors list in "Authors" section (note that you must be registered and logged in to make full use of the procedure), or use the group listing in the forum procedure.
