What is a typical grade composition?

The grading methodology is up to instructors, and it is usually dictated by standards used at a particular university and rules of grading recommended by the organization by whom the university is accredited.

For a regular in-class course, a typical grade composition can consist of
- final 30%
- midterm 20%
- 6 cases/research assignments (each 5%) 30%
- 4 timed tests or quizzes (each 5%) 20%
For individual special studies course, an instructor may choose to put more weight on cases and research assignments.

For course completion of a PEOI registered student with instructor supervision, the grade composition for a professional course can be
- in-person final exam 50%
- 6 e-mailed assignment reports (each 5%) 30%
- course work and on-line tests (each 2%) 20%
- plus bonus points for comments and/or group work participation
- plus or minus points for quality of note taking

For course completion of a PEOI registered student without an instructor, the grade composition for a professional course is
- in-person final exam 70%
- course work and on-line tests (each 2%) 30%
- plus or minus points for quality of note taking

As noted earlier, a student may choose to place up to 100% of the grade of a professional course on the in-person final examination.
